Brazil defended the Right of
Return in meetings stimulated by BPNIC

BPNIC
Press Statement,
11/24/2008
Palestine obtained, on October 23, in meetings
stimulated by BPNIC, the
commitment of President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva to assist with
peace negotiations in relation to the Right of Return of
Palestinians to the Holy Land, in the conversations that will take
place in November and December with president Nicolas Sarkozy, of
France, and Dmitri Medvedev, of Russia.
The possible role of Brazil in peace negotiations between the
Palestinian National Authority (PNA) and Israel was the main subject
of meetings that President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva and the
Minister for External Relations, Celso Amorim, had with the Minister
of Foreign Affairs of the Palestinian government, Riad Al-Malki,
during his visit to Brazil in the month of October.
During the meetings in Brasilia, Al-Malki stated concerns with the
risk of the international financial crisis affecting the commitment
of the United States with the peace process.
Brazil is committed to
the peace process, especially with the guidelines and intentions
affirmed in the Peace Conference held in Annapolis, in the United
States, in November of the year 2007, even if the process started
there and has not advanced as we would have liked, affirmed Amorim.
The Right of Return for Palestinians is a right sustained by the
Universal Declaration of Human Rights, established in December 10,
1948.
The right of return is an irrevocable entitlement and needs to be
respected by the Israeli government, and this declaration of Brazil
represents a strong relationship between the PNA and Brazil, which
is becoming increasingly concerned with the Palestinians in the West
Bank, including East Jerusalem, and in particular in a state of siege in the Gaza Strip.
To promote Brazil as key for Palestinian-Israeli peace, and promote
Brazil's interests in the Middle East, BPNIC held meetings in June
and August 2008 with the Ministry of External Relations of Brazil
and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the PNA. BPNIC also held
meetings with the ambassadors of the Palestine Liberation
Organization in Brazil and the United States around the same time.
BPNIC continues to praise the President of Brazil and the Ministry of External
Relations for the declarations that continue to insure the way for a
Palestinian state.
