BPNIC Briefing, December 2007
"On November 29, 1947, the General Assembly of the UN
approved a resolution for the partition of Palestine,
however this partition did not happen", stated the Speaker
of the House Arlindo Chinaglia (PT-SP), Agência Câmara
reported. The UN, according to Mr. Chinaglia, has the
commitment to create a Palestinian State, since Israel has
already been constituted. "The Palestinian people
still suffer today from many miseries and still do not have
the basic of rights", he affirmed.
Mr. Chinaglia participated on November 29, 2007 in the
Brazilian National Congress Day of Solidarity for the
Palestinian People.
Arlindo Chinaglia Reaffirms Brazil’s Commitment to
Palestinians
In evaluating the Palestinian problem, Mr. Chinaglia pointed
out, the Palestinian problem should be the priority of
parliaments across the world. Mr. Chinaglia also
affirmed that Brazil’s commitment to solve the Palestinian
problem and create a Palestinian nation must ensure that
Brazilian foreign relations and policy are focused on the
facts. Mr. Chinaglia said he awaits for upcoming
commemorations for this day, to not pay tribute to the
solidarity with Palestinians, but for the creation of
Palestine and for peace between the two peoples.
Deputy Nilson Mourão (PT-AC) and Aldo Rebelo (PCdoB-SP) were
also present in the ceremony and both stressed Brazil’s
commitment to ensure that more rights for the Palestinian
people exist. The tribute to the Palestinian people
took place in the Hall of the Lower House, in Brasilia.
With the support of its members, the Brazilian Palestinian
National Interest Committee continues to promote Brazil as
key for Palestinian-Israeli peace, and promote Brazil's
interests in the Middle East by urging its members to
maintain contact with Members of Congress, to support
important initiatives that would lead to the creation of a
Palestinian State. |
