In response to an invitation by the Palestinian National Authority (PNA), the
Brazilian Government decided to send an observers' mission to the parliamentary
elections for the next January 25, destined to be a renewal of Palestinian
Legislative Council (PLC).
The Brazilian observers' delegation included representatives from the electoral
justice, the National Congress, the department of State and from the
Arab-Brazilian community.
The parliamentary elections constituted a significant mark in consolidating the
Palestinian institutions. The Brazilian Government reiterates its expectation
for the PLC to contribute to the peace negotiations, with parameters fastened to
Road Map for Peace.
The delegation's observers is an evidence of Brazil offering aid and cooperation
to the PNA and of participating, in a more active way, in the peace efforts in
Middle East.
