President Lula said that "Brazil is willing to help reach peace in Middle East"
as he received an invitation from President Yasser Arafat, asking that Brazil
joins a task force destined to drive the peace process among Israelis and
Palestinians.
The invitation was made through a letter given by the minister of the Palestinian
National Authority External Relations Department, Nabil Shaath. The
minister traveled for more than 8 hours from Palestine to the capital of Egypt
to attend a meeting with the Brazilian President.
According to the Brazilian minister of the External Relations, Celso Amorim,
Arafat proposed that Brazil establish a diplomatic office in the Palestinian
city of Ramallah.
