Briefing, June 2007
After the 40 years following Israel’s annexation of
Palestinian lands, more Brazilian’s have placed their
sympathy with the Palestinians than with Israel, according
to a BBC World Service public opinion poll. The poll
indicated a high percentage of Brazilians view Israel
influence quite negatively. 72% of Brazilians view Israel’s
influence as negative.
Although the report did not suggest why Israel is viewed
negatively in Brazil, it’s evident that Brazilians are able
to see the "real" Israeli plan for Palestine, which as
described by a Palestinian academic Karma Nabulsi, is "a
vision of an anarchic society, truncated, violent,
powerless, destroyed, cowed, ruled by disparate militias,
gangs, religious ideologues and extremists, broken up into
ethnic and religious tribalism and co-opted
collaborationists."
