Support Economic Aid to Palestine
Aid to Palestine is becoming increasingly important as a cornerstone of Brazil's
foreign policy and is a cost-effective way of ensuring that Brazil's close ally
in the Middle East can build a nation in the region, to coexist peacefully next
to Israel, legalized and institutionalized by the international community.
The Lower House of Deputies approved a foreign aid bill and announced a
contribution on September 1st, 2006 that includes US$ 500 to humanitarian
projects in the occupied Palestinian territories. The National Congress made the
announcement though Ambassador to the Middle East, Mr. Affanso Celso of
Ouro-Preto at the International Conference on the Humanitarian Situation in the
Palestinian territories, September 1st, 2006. The approved aid for the
Palestinians represents the first of a plan between Palestine and Brazil to
phase out economic aid to Palestine while gradually promoting the creation of a
Palestinian state. Please thank members of the Lower House who voted for the
foreign aid bill and urge members who voted against it to support it in the
future.
