future and promote Brazil's interests in the Middle East by urging your Members
of Congress to support these important initiatives.

Palestine's Right to Exist
What Israel is doing in one of the most densely populated tracts of land in the
world, where the unemployment rate is higher than anywhere else in the world, is
a war crime.
The Government of Israel must end the siege and the war in Gaza, for the sake of
its neighbors, for the sake of the average Palestinian citizen, for the sake of
the average Israeli citizen, and for the sake of peace. The vicious cycle must
end, sooner than later.
The Middle East needs solutions for peace, not war. Although the situation in
relation to occupation in Palestine is complex, the solution is simple: End of
occupation. The right of return of refugees, and the designation of East
Jerusalem as the capital of a future Palestinian state within the borders of
1967.
Brazil has already expressed to the Madrid Quartet nations and international
entities made up of the United States, Russia, the European Union and the United
Nations, its readiness to participate more actively in international efforts to
compel Israel to bring to an end the occupation of the Palestinians.
The Workers Party of the Brazilian Government said the attack by Israel in Gaza
is criminal; the military actions of the Jewish state can only be characterized
as state terrorism; attacks cannot be answered through actions against
civilians; retaliation against civilians is a typical practice of the Nazi army:
Lídice and Guernica are two examples.
Thank you President Lula, House members and Senators for favoring Palestine's
search for peace and right to self-determination. You called on Israel to stop
the massacres of Palestinians and to end its military occupation. You also
called and supported a new nation to be born in the Middle East to coexist
peacefully next to the Israelis.
